I'm absolutely gutted ... just found out that our container only arrives in port on 26th! Not sure how long after that before it reaches us.
We were told 8-10 weeks in our contract. This Wednesday is 10 weeks. We've been hanging on and hanging on these last few days ... only to have them turn into weeks.
Please don't get me wrong; we are so grateful for everything that's been lent to us and to our friends for trying to make us comfortable while we wait. But it's like living in a hotel room - even though you have everything you need it's just not home.
While I know there were plenty of disappointments before your trip, so many things have gone right since your arrival. Most of that is due to very good planning on your side and Grant's as well. This is one of those details that is left to others to control. It is frustrating after all the patient waiting, now you are all just ready to get on with it. Having your stuff is a vital part of that. My fingers are crossed that you will not have much longer to wait to get on with your new life.
ReplyDeleteOh man.......that bites. Here's hoping they get it to you sooner!
ReplyDeleteSurely they are breaching their contract? Really hope your things are with you soon Jen xxx
ReplyDeleteGo thrift shopping and load up on some fun "new" stuff!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear--sorry that's happened. Maybe you'll be able to get some money back because they are late?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Heather. Perhaps go thrifting or yard saling just to distract you?
Trouble with container ships is that they are weather dependant! And filling the ship dependant! And customs at your end dependant! :-( A container arriving at a UK port can take upwards of a week to clear customs, although more often just a day. If you know who the Import agent is they may be able to give you a more accurate idea of what the average is? Once in port the ship unloads pretty quickly, so at least it will be on NZ soil! Not so long now.... just think of the excitement of re-discovering everything when it does arrive. And I agree - go out and treat yourselves.... :-D Jude.x
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. I wish there was something I could do to help. I have (sort of) been there, waiting and waiting for our stuff to arrive only to have the delivery date pushed off. For a person who is a homebody, it is just very stressful in a way that you don't really understand until it happens, I think. And you feel silly being stressed (I did, anyway), but how can we help what we feel? I totally get this.
ReplyDeleteOn a slightly different note, I wanted you to know how much I have enjoyed your blog over the last few years but especially as you chronicled your preparations and then the actual move to New Zealand. It's been such a great read and even sort of educational. I am envious, of course, since I live in boring old Tennessee in the USA and you are doing such cool, exotic, adventurous things, but I am very happy for you. You are making your dreams and goals happen and most people don't even know what that means.
Hang in there, kid! Thanks for sharing your life with us via your blog. It's a very cool and different life and very entertaining!
